Walk out of the Franklin Avenue–Medgar Evers College station, an express stop for the 4 and 5, local for the 2 and 3, with a transfer to the S shuttle, and you’re a few minutes from our front door on Dean Street. Families coming from Kingston Avenue, Nostrand Avenue, or Crown Heights–Utica Avenue have an equally direct walk. For parents commuting into Manhattan, this matters more than it sounds: the 2 and 3 run straight to the West Side (Times Square, Chambers Street, Wall Street), and the 4 and 5 run to the East Side (Grand Central, Union Square, Bowling Green). One seat, no transfer, from a drop-off on Dean Street to your desk.
We’re located in Crown Heights North. The section of the neighborhood north of Eastern Parkway, inside Brooklyn Community Board 8, bounded roughly by Atlantic Avenue to the north, Eastern Parkway to the south, Ralph Avenue to the east and Washington Avenue to the west. That’s a stretch of about a mile by two miles, dense with brownstones, apartment buildings, small businesses and, block by block, a real mix of the families who make up Central Brooklyn. Families also come to us from Crown Heights South, across Eastern Parkway in Community Board 9, and from Prospect Heights, Bed-Stuy and Prospect Lefferts Gardens just across the neighborhood’s other edges.
Crown Heights is genuinely one of the more diverse corners of Brooklyn, roughly 30% of residents are foreign-born, and more than two-thirds of those are from the Caribbean, giving the neighborhood one of the most varied populations of Caribbean immigrants outside the West Indies itself. Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights South is also home to a long-established Chabad-Lubavitch community. Every Labor Day, the West Indian American Day Carnival fills Eastern Parkway with an estimated one to three million spectators, one of the largest, most distinctive cultural events anywhere in New York City, and a reminder that this neighborhood has a character all its own.

What Families Get at Little Me

We care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old across three programs, infant, toddler and preschool, with small teacher-to-child ratios at every age band. Every child gets three meals and snacks daily, prepared with real attention to nutrition, not just convenience. Parents get daily updates, photos and schedule notes through the Brightwheel app, so you know what your day looked like even when you weren’t there for it, feeding times for the babies, nap logs for the toddlers, and a note on how the afternoon’s activity went for the preschoolers.
Our teachers go through background checks before they ever step into a classroom, and ongoing training keeps that standard current rather than something that was true once at hiring. We keep our ratios tight on purpose: 2 teachers for every 8 children in the infant room, scaling up gradually as children grow more independent, up to 2 teachers for every 20 children in our oldest preschool group. That’s not a maximum we allow. It’s the standard we actually run.

Reaching Us From Anywhere in Crown Heights

However you’re getting to Dean Street, there’s a reasonably direct way to do it. If you’re coming from the east, off the 3 or 4 at Crown Heights–Utica Avenue, or riding the B46 Select Bus Service, the walk in is straightforward. If you’re closer to Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights South, the 2, 3, 4 or 5 connects you north across Eastern Parkway. Nostrand Avenue and the Little Caribbean corridor sit a short ride to the west, and Franklin Avenue itself has become a genuine destination in its own right, with a growing strip of restaurants and small businesses that give the neighborhood a livelier daytime feel than it had a decade ago.

We don’t run one curriculum stretched across every age group. Each program is built around what a child actually needs at that stage. In the infant room, that means safe sleep practices, a feeding schedule built around your baby rather than a fixed clock, and a 2-teacher-to-8-baby ratio so no infant is ever waiting long for attention. In the toddler room, the focus shifts to emotional education, sharing, turn-taking, naming feelings, alongside the physical milestones of this age: stacking, climbing, running, and the sometimes-bumpy process of potty training. In preschool, the work becomes more structured: early literacy and math, sitting through a full activity, and the social skills a kindergarten classroom will expect on day one.

Every program shares the same underlying standards, background-checked staff, three meals and snacks daily, and daily Brightwheel updates, but the day-to-day experience looks different depending on your child’s age, because it should.
